Area Information

The city of Covington is home to beautiful antebellum architecture, a lively town square, tree-lined streets and a famous courthouse, which is termed by many as the county’s heart.  The county is a perfect specimen of natural beauty and consists of three rivers, namely Yellow River, Alcovy River, and South River. These three rivers further enhance the natural beauty of the county by merging at Lake Jackson. Also nearby is Lake Varner, which is a great fishing reservoir and also Factory Shoals Recreation Park, which is famous for its wonderful shoals, historical ruins, and camping. The city of Covington is very representative of the county’s beauty. Apart from just sightseeing here, it is also a great place to live. It is equipped with some of the best educational institutes and hospitals and is also home to delicious restaurants and shops. Covington is also famous for concerts, festivals, and other such entertainment events. The city is also known as the Hollywood of the South as many movies and TV shows have been filmed here. 

The schools here operate under the Newton County District. These schools provide education from preschool through the twelfth grade. The district overall consists of five middle schools, fourteen elementary schools, and three high schools.
