Natural Household Cleaners We Love

Your home is a place that’s warm, cozy, and safe, and part of the recipe for safety means steering clear of noxious or toxic chemical cleaners. This task is incredibly easy to do, thanks to the array of natural household cleaners on the market—or that you can even make yourself. Check out some of our favorites below!

Dr. Bronner’s

Talk natural household cleaners and one of the first items that comes up is liquid castile soap, one of the front-running products from Dr. Bronner’s line of cleaning products. Castile soap features a vegetable base, rather than a petroleum one, making it safe for use on everything from your kitchen counters to your very own skin. Dr. Bronner’s Sal Suds Liquid Cleaner is another hot product, an all-purpose cleanser created from plant-based surfactants and essential oils.

Method

Method mixes up natural household cleaners using green chemistry, recycled and recyclable packaging, and ethical ingredient sourcing, the perfect recipe for safe and trustworthy cleaning products. The brand’s line of earth-friendly products includes standard, all-purpose cleaners, while also offering specialty items like daily granite cleaner, daily wood cleaner, and a natural wood polish.

Mrs. Meyer’s

With a tagline that proclaims, “Squeaky clean. Not Stinky Clean,” it’s easy to imagine the fresh, natural results you get using Mrs. Meyer’s products. The brand is big on using essential oils in its natural household cleaners, which include dish soap, automatic dishwasher packs, multi-surface cleaners or concentrate, and heritage-inspired specialty cleaners. You can also go for kitchen sets or gift buckets that give you a little bit of everything.

Seventh Generation

With more than a quarter-century perfecting its plant-based products, Seventh Generation prides itself on making the world a better place for years to come. Its very name, after all, was chosen for the company’s aim of “nurturing the health of the next seven generations.” Choose from natural household cleaners that range from botanical disinfectants to laundry detergents, with a special line of baby-friendly products in between. Natural diapers, anyone?

Homemade

Another way to keep your home free of harmful chemical cleansers is to whip up your own natural household cleaners using some of the most basic ingredients. A prime example comes from two of our all-time favorites:

  • White vinegar: Mildly acidic disinfectant and stain remover
  • Baking soda: Mildly alkaline abrasive agent

Use vinegar to:

  • Clean the microwave, with mixture of one part vinegar to four parts water heated in microwave-safe bowl for three minutes, then removed and the interior of the microwave wiped clean
  • Clean glass, using one part vinegar to five parts water

Use baking soda to:

  • Scour tubs and tile

Mix vinegar and baking soda together to form a paste that can:

  • Be worked into carpet stains, allowed to dry, then vacuumed up
  • Be combined with boiling water after five minutes, then poured down the drain as a cleaner

No matter what brand or DIY route you choose, natural household cleaners can not only bring you safe and effective cleaning results, but also an incredible peace of mind.
